The Red Dragon, part of the national flag design, is also a popular Welsh symbol. The symbol of the dragon is populary supposef to have been the battle standard of King Arthur and other ancient Celtic leaders; This myth is likely to have originated from tale of Merlin's vision of a Red and Ehite dragon battling, with the red dragon being victorious.
The Flag of Wales incorporates the red dragon of Prince Cadwalader along with the Tudor colours of green and white.
The connection between Wales and the leek is obscure. Most authors trying to trace the link come up with one or other of the legends that show it was used by the Welsh as a cap badge in battle to show friend from foe.One version is that St David advised the Britons on the eve of a battle with the Saxons, to wear leeks in their caps so that they could easily distinguish friend from foe. This apparently helped to secure a great victory....
